Sindiswa Dlathu is one of the best South African actresses. As mentioned before, she became famous after featuring in Muvhango, a South African soap opera that airs on SABC 2. She also played the role of Thandaza  Mokoena and has also been in a couple of movies/TV Shows including Generations and Sarafina. Additionally, Dlathu is a musician, and she became part of the national miming competitions when she was fifteen years old and won.

It all started when Sindi entered a talent competition called Ashell Road Fame at the age of 12 years. She didn’t win the competition but became one of the finalists. Thereafter, her exposure during this gig earned her mentorship from one of the Mbhaqanga band members; Mahotella Queens.

Three years later, Sindi tried her luck again. She entered a national miming competition where she played out an Aretha Franklin front of The Beatles tune “Let It Be” and guess what! she won the competition. She participated in a national miming challenge. This time, she tried out singing. She competed using “Let It Be,” by The Beatles song. This is one motivated her to focus on the arts industry.

She then also went to the tryouts for Mbongeni Ngema’s play, Sarafina, and this let her a role as the understudy for the title character and went to perform in the United States of America (USA).

While on visit with Sarafina, she met Randy Crawford who requested her to stay behind and perform with her.

In the year 1997, she joined the Duma Ka Ndlovu’s stage play titled ‘The Game’.

She was given a role as South African Mbhaqanga band. Nomthandazo “Thandaza” Buthelezi on Muvhango. When she first cast her part was minor, however, it grew and became one of the main characters.

To boost her career even more, Sindi Dlathu tried out auditions for the ‘Sarafina play’ by Mbongeni Ngema. She became one of few lucky contestants who were given roles in the play. Her role was that of an understudy for Sarafina. Dlathu even became fortunate because she went to the United States of America to perform the play.

Aat the US with Sarafina, she met Randy Crawford. Randy asked her whether she could stay and perform with her. This really helped her build her career and reach the stars.

In Muvhango, Sindi was given the role of Nomthandazo “Thandaza” Buthelezi. Being a veteran, her role in Muvhango has grown over the years from a minor character to one of the key cast members. Her role in the play has also helped her build her fame.
