Nomcebo Zikode

South African artist Nomcebo Zikode was born in 1985. In South Africa’s KwaZulul-Nata province, she was born in Hammarsdale. She gained international popularity with the song Jerusalem, which topped the African charts, and she uses it as a launching pad for greater successes.

She won a talent competition on Ukhozi FM in 2003, which was hosted by Tshepo Nzimande, and as a result, she started gaining notice in the entertainment sector. South African singer, composer, and performer Nomcebo Zikode was born in KwaZulu-Natal. She went to KwaZulu-Natal’s Ukusa High School for her basic schooling.

She graduated from Havatech College in 2006 and currently resides in Johannesburg, South Africa. She didn’t get a job with the study.

After she won a talent contest on Ukhozi FM in 2003, she attracted media notice. Other runner-ups in the Tshepo Nzimande-hosted competition included Lundi, S’fiso, Kholeka, Nhlanhla Nciza, and Zahara.

 

She has previously backed up South African diva Zahara on vocals. She released the single “Imizamo Yami” to launch her career in the music business.

Imizamo Yami by Nomcebo is a song about the pain of receiving unrequited love from a loved one.

With the help of the song “Jerusalema” they made together, Nomcebo gained international recognition.

More than 100 million people have watched Jerusalema on YouTube alone.

The song has spread beyond of South Africa and is at the top of the list of the continent’s most streamed songs.

Burna Boy, a Super Star in Nigeria, remixed the song, which has since received over 6 million listens on Audiomack, increasing its popularity in that country.

Among the South African artists with whom Nomcebo has collaborated are DJ Ganyani, DemogulSA, Bongo Beats, and Master kG.

She co-founded Ganyani Entertainment with DJ Ganyani.

At the 2019 Backing Vocalists & Session Musicians Awards (BVSM), the Jerusalema vocalist was nominated for the Rookie Award. She represents the South African DSAC (Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture).
